Philosophy of Art

The Artist as Creator: a Personal Philosophy of Art and Creative Practice.

Art and creativity in people's consciousness is all things to all people. Art is a profound reflection of man's relationship with life and our desire for self expression, communication and creativity. It is our intervention with life and a ceaseless drive for new ideas and experiences that define who we are as individuals, which leads us to change and renewal, learning and understanding- self-individuation. Art and creativity is a process of communication with the visual, emotional, cerebral and spiritual experiences, which are foundational to life and shape the world as we know it.

Our engagement with art, culture and the constant flux of the world about us defines our sense of destiny and who we are as peoples living in different cultures, from small groups of people to whole societies. Culture is a social heirloom passed down the generations which imparts significance and meaning to our way of life and remains open to re-interpretation, manipulation and is in a constant state of flux. Art and culture is an ever changing entity.

Art and creativity is a force that offers profound insight, balance and meaning to life and manifests intimate experiences of the mysterious and the sublime. It imparts new meanings and generates new ideas, concepts and associations. Art is something that fabricates personal myth, the signs that inform and guide us on life's path and bring ephemeral moments of private meaning into being- those many hidden meanings that lie on the edge of consciousness. Art and creativity is a celebration of living in all its entirity.

Art is challenging and engaging and takes us on a resonant journey of personal learning facilitating an intimate process of communication with self and the world we build around us. It shapes who we are as individuals and our own authenticity is the driving force with which we live life to the full. It gives us happiness, fulfillment and times of deep celebration and joy. Within our present milieu where cultural values are becoming homogenised and losing their individualism and autheticity, art and creativity has the definite potential to fill the void that the capitalist dream leaves in its wake.
